Professor Wang Shenpei
At 2 PM on April 11, Professor Wang Shenpei from Computer College at Northeastern University, USA, delivered an academic lecture titled "Pattern Recognition, Big Data and Its Application" in the video conference room of Telecom Building. Faculty of College of Information and Electronic Engineering and students majoring Computer Science and Technology, and Network Engineering attended the lecture.
Lecture hosted by Xi shengfeng, vice dean of College of Information and Electronic Engineering. Wang Shenpei introduced the intelligent pattern recognition and its application in the electronic evidence from aspects of pattern recognition, computer vision applications and interactive machine learning. He interpreted the effect of artificial intelligence in daily life, described the difference between pattern recognition and artificial intelligence with vivid examples, and elaborated the application of artificial intelligence and fingerprint identification with the example of Hong Kong identity card fingerprint authentication. He explained various kinds of recognition systems, such as speech recognition, image recognition, fingerprint recognition, face recognition, 3D object recognition, etc. He compared recognition pattern on Chinese characters with English recognition, and looked to the future of research direction. After the lecture, Professor Wang Shenpei also had an informal discussion with the faculty and students of College of Information and Electronic Engineering.
Wang Shenpei is a tenured professor at the School of Computer and Information Science, Northeastern University. He is an academician of the IAPR, ISIBM, WASE society, a winner of the IEEE and ISIBM outstanding achievement award, a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Calgary, Canada, an outstanding foreign guest professor at McGonagall DePauw University "Otto Von glick (Otto Von - Guerick)", Germany, a Zi Jiang Scholar at the School of Computer Information at East China Normal University.
